To operate the Gateway 500S, Gateway 500S BT, Gateway 500 or Blueway 500 product, certain options have to be enabled in the car audio system, which might not be set by default in all BMW vehicles. Enabling these protocols normally requires a car diagnostics tool (e.g. Autologic) and the expertise of a BMW specialized workshop.

The GEN tool provides these special enabling/disabling diagnostics functions only through the ODB 2 interface, thus making it a small and affordable device to help the installation/removal of the Gateway product.
